Episode 1: Switching Channels
Just a few ground rules:
- Remember, comments section will have spoilers for the episodes we're watching.
- No bashing of characters, ships, or actors.
- No bashing of the show itself. It's not Original Flavor Eerie, but we all know that going in. Critique is fine, but no outright hate.
- Play nice and have fun!

Date: 2025-02-08 02:26 pm (UTC)1- the Director, Bill Corcoran was for sure attempting to copy the '92 series. Lots of slightly odd dutch angles, center framing. I like it. I wish the rest of the show had taken this approach but directing wise, this is the only episode ive ever noticed it in. He only did this one episode, which may explain it.
2- I've never thought much about it but the colour palette for this episode is SO muted and brown. Like, on purpose. Not because they're incompetent but they wanted it to look that way. The scene with Ted at the World O Stuff is extremely muddy. It looks so different from the rest of the series, the show doesn't actually pick up a palette closer to the original show until the end of the episode where Mitchell and Stanley swear that they're going to hunt down the escaped weirdness. Super interesting. I actually don't mind the muted colours personally, but I can see why you would want something a little brighter for your childrens show.

Some Thoughts
Date: 2025-02-09 06:28 pm (UTC)I love Ted the cable man. I feel like he leaves us a lot of questions that would be really fun to explore. But one for me is where did the technology for the dish/dimension leak come from? Did he steal some things from the Loyal Order headquarters one day and accidentally connected the two dimensions? Or was it more of an act of god, like he seems to think it is (god, in his opinion, being television itself, which is fascinating)
The Single Clip of Marshall and Simon gets really old really fast, lol. I know they couldn't just have Omri and Justin do cameos due to age and time, but also it's so obviously just that one few second clip over and over.
When Crawford says he loves the Marshall & Simon show it makes me wonder if one of the 2000 channels is just the original Eerie show on repeat, lol.

Date: 2025-02-09 06:43 pm (UTC)OMG, yes. And given that they are all TV characters, from a certain point of view, Ted's not exactly wrong, either.

Yeah, I wish they could have found, I don't know, any other way to do this. Or just not have Simon and Marshall appear and have Other Dimension strive more to be its own thing from right out of the gate.

Yes! I want to know what's on the Marshall and Simon show and if/how it continued beyond the first season. (And now I have a fic idea.)
Also, while this isn't one of my favorite episodes, it does have one of my favorite scenes: when the cheerleader surgeons from TV come into the World O' Stuff and start drinking in unison, that's such a weird and creepy moment that calls to mind the basketball players from the credits of the original Eerie while actively amping up the weirdness factor.
Re: Some Thoughts
Date: 2025-02-09 07:03 pm (UTC)Yeah. I wonder if maybe they could have just kept getting cryptic notes in their food, with no concrete information about where they were coming from? Though that would make the "we have to turn off the switch at the same time to stop the flow" not work quite so well. Hmmmm...
(OOOH I want to know your fic idea! Because it may have worked its way into a different fic idea I've been playing around with).
OH God, yes! That scene is so unsettling!
Re: Some Thoughts
Date: 2025-02-10 02:56 am (UTC)Yeah, I think the episode has two big let downs, and this is one of them. Do you have time to entertain a wild theory even I don’t believe? When the television glitches it shows a brief shot of two…Creatures in Simon and Marshall’s place. Also, during the first introduction scene Simon introduces himself as Simon HOPE, not Holmes. I mean what if it was never Simon and Marshall from the ‘92 series? I mean did you ever know Simon or Marshall to have powers of inter dimensional telekinesis? Lmao. I’m just messing. BUT WHAT IF -
EDITED TO ADD: i was just joking around when i wrote this on my lunchbreak but now i have to ask. what the hell are these things.
