deifire respectively made me remember fanmixes and Five Things fic in the space of a single day, I decided it would be fun to have a Fandom Tropes challenge once a month, to remind us of all the stuff that used to be super common in fandom that maybe we don't see as much as we'd like to these days.

Oh yes…someone watched us, saw the worst in us…decided the world would be a nicer place without us. Maybe it will be.

As I mentioned in the Howling review I have a great deal of admiration for Joe Dante, he is easily one of my favorite directors. As well as being a huge horror film fan he always comes off to me as being a kid at heart. Look at some of the non-horror films he has directed to see what I mean. Explorers, Innerspace, Matinee, Small Soldiers, and Looney Tunes: Back in Action have all been directed by Joe Dante in addition to quite a bit of television work including Eerie, Indiana (1991). So being such a big fan I hope you can see that I was quite ready for his two entries in the Master of Horror series, Homecoming, and the Screwfly Solution. I was not disappointed by the films and I doubt you will be either.

When I was a freshman in high school, a show called Eerie Indiana came to NBC. It was a about a 13 year old boy who recently moved with his family to a place called Eerie, Indiana. Right away he realizes things are very strange and begins to document the weirdness with his new found pal, Simon. Sadly, the show only lasted one season, from 1991 to 1992. The show is on Netflix, so get some popcorn and enjoy the silliness. Highly recommended!

Whilst reading about the recent re-imagining of Fargo as a TV series, I discovered that the new FX show isn’t the first time that the 1996 film has been turned into a TV show.

A Fargo pilot was filmed in 1997 but failed to get a full commission, despite being directed by Kathy Bates. Eventually aired in 2003, you can get an idea of where they were headed with the show in the footage below.

Whilst finding footage for that cancelled show, I then discovered a documentary called Brilliant but Cancelled which inspired a whole programming block on the Trio TV network. This umbrella title was used by Trio to repeat a number of shows that had either failed to make it past pilot or reach the desired viewing figures.

The excerpt below from the documentary highlights some great shows, including Buffalo Bill and Eerie Indiana!

Tonight’s episode of Eerie, Indiana is the 19th and sadly last episode of the series and in fact was never aired on it’s original run on NBC back in the 1991-1992 season, it was finally aired however on the Disney Channel. For those who have not had any contact with the show it involves the investigations of all of the strangeness around the town of Eerie, Indiana by best friends Marshall Teller (Omri Katz) and Simon Holmes (Justin Shenkarow)…everything from intelligent dogs plotting on world domination to why Elvis Presley is alive and well in Eerie. Joe Dante (Gremlins, Innerspace) by the way directed five episodes of the series though not this particular one.

So, seeing as I'm actually going to be at the screening this Sunday after all, I was wondering if anyone had any questions they'd like to ask Justin. I can't guarantee I won't get too flustered and starstruck to ask them, but hey, I can at least try!
